Why would you watch cartoons? Well, animated programmes have come a long way from their mere ‘cartoon’ stature. While some are exclusively entertaining, others are informative and have strong messages. Here are the list of nominees and the winner of the Primetime Emmy Award 2019 for Outstanding Animated Program.
The Simpsons needs no introduction. It is TV’s oldest running show and one of the top TV shows of all time. The Simpsons, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, bagged the Primetime Emmy Award 2019 for the Outstanding Animated Program. The creative team of the TV show attributed the show’s success to their combined effort to come up with new ideas and keep abreast of what is going on in the world.
This show accurately depicts a smart empathetic approach to what it is like to get the hang of hormonal changes throughout the teenage, the awkwardness during puberty and the messiness of adolescence. It does at some point cross the line of jokes, but that’s what the key to humour of this adult animated show.
Now this is a family friendly show which proves that humour can thrive without being filled up with inappropriate jokes. The characters are more down to earth than those of South Park and The Simpsons, and are more relatable. The show has one of the best comedic timings and shows how a family deals with real life situations.
Talking about a show that has thought provoking content with humorous gags, Bojack Horseman is easily one of the best animated series in Netflix’s bag. The central character is basically a drunk depressed superstar on his quest for happiness. The monologues in this show perfectly depicts the lost protagonist. People talk over each other, stammer and curse which reflects the efficiency of the script. Apart from that this show has a beautiful and philosophical take on the meaning of happiness in life. Many expected this series to win its first Emmy. But, The Simpsons proved its mettle against the series.
It is a television special based on Adventure Time, Cartoon Network’s most creative show. This mini-series comprises four bittersweet episodes that serves as a fitting finale to the ten-season show that is guaranteed to tear you up a bit if you’ve been watching this show since its inception.
