New Year is just around the corner. It is time to make New Year resolutions! While you may have already thought of a few goals to accomplish, here are some ideas that you must consider, especially if you are a student who aspire to make a career in creative fields like animation, visual effects, filmmaking, etc.
Necessarily kept on top of this list, it’s the most crucial step for your career. Having a great skill is not enough, planned work always beats unrecognised talent. A good portfolio presents you as a professional to potential employers. Now, creating a portfolio isn’t something that could be completed as a task in a month or two. While you keep adding your best works to your portfolio, apply for internships and part-time jobs.
If you are a beginner in a creative field, make plenty of videos and upload them on YouTube. You could gain viewership, get valuable feedback from others, and even make money in the process. Remember – some of the most viral videos are the simplest ones. Vimeo too is a great place to publish animations and other such works.
This is not about following a movie star on Instagram. It is important that you follow those who inspire you creatively. It could be someone whose work you feel is terrific even though if it is underrated. Or it could be someone who is popular. For animators it could be the works of Walt Disney, for designers it could be Paul Rand. Start by knowing more about them and the way their work changed the world.
Google is where you can start searching for local community organisations and meet-ups. Networking will give you opportunities to communicate with like-minded people, get feedback, and possibly collaborate. You can also make a list of events that you are interested in, and attend them.
Think about all the things you have wished to achieve personally and professionally. Goals can be less overwhelming with well strategic plan. Set up benchmarks and daily goals to motivate yourself.
Less like a tourist and more like a traveler. Challenge your ideas about the world and your place in it. Bonus benefit? Travelling will help you explore new opportunities. Observing what is around you instead of spending endless hours online could be a great resolution for 2020.
You can stay creative! Just keep in mind that resolutions are the most effective when followed consistently.
Good Luck! Have a Great New Year!
